The supply of weapons to Kyiv will become mandatory for NATO countries - Jens Stoltenberg

The supply of weapons to Kyiv will become mandatory for NATO countries, Stoltenberg said.

He added that Europe's first F-35 fighter jets, based in the Netherlands, will be ready for NATO nuclear missions in June.

According to the Secretary General, the alliance must adapt nuclear capabilities and show the effectiveness of nuclear deterrence in the face of the “dangerous rhetoric” of the Russian Federation.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expects to agree on a plan to strengthen the alliance’s role in coordinating assistance to Ukraine at a meeting of the heads of the Ministry of Defense on June 13-14, which will then be approved at a summit in the United States.

"At this ministerial meeting, we will discuss further strengthening support for Ukraine... We plan to agree on a plan to strengthen the alliance's role in coordinating military assistance and training, as well as long-term financing," he said.
The Secretary General added that this plan will then be approved at the July summit in the United States.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expects that alliance members at the summit in the United States will “more clearly” speak out in support of Ukraine’s membership in the alliance.

“We have already confirmed that Ukraine will become a member of the alliance... we are helping Ukraine modernize its armed forces and achieve compatibility with NATO standards... In addition, I expect that at the summit in Washington allies will speak even more clearly in support of its membership,” he said he was speaking before a meeting on June 13-14 of the heads of the defense ministries of the organization’s member countries.

He declined to provide other details of the decisions expected at the summit.
