Azerbaijan accuses Armenia over soldier's death

BAKU, Azerbaijan. -An Azerbaijani soldier was killed on Monday by Armenian forces on the countries’ shared border, Azerbaijan’s military has claimed.

The country's defense ministry said Private Elvin Hasanov (20) was killed by Armenian gunfire, which violated the ceasefire between the two countries.

Azerbaijan and Armenia, two former Soviet republics, fought a war over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh in the 1990s.

Efforts have so far failed to reach a peaceful resolution to the conflict which has lasted 20 years.

  • The OSCE’s Minsk Group, including France, Russia and the United States, holds regular meetings to address the problem in the region.
