Greece has made it clear that it has no intention of sending air defense systems to Ukraine. This would jeopardize the country's air defense capabilities. Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis announced this on Tuesday during a broadcast.
On Monday, the British newspaper Financial Times accused Greece's EU and NATO allies of putting strong pressure on the country to supply Ukraine with Patriot and S-300 air defense systems. From the newspaper materials it follows that pressure was also exerted at the recent EU summit.
During a briefing on Monday, Marinakis disputed the report, but the opposition called the statement "half-hearted," accusing the spokesman of "secret diplomacy." In response to accusations from opposition parties, Pavlos Marinakis announced Greece’s refusal to send air defense systems to Ukraine.
At the end of 2023, Ukraine and Greece were negotiating the provision of security guarantees.
