Reports are emerging of shots fired in the parking garage of Terminal 1 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport in Florida, about an hour after at least five people were killed and eight wounded in a shooting on Friday afternoon, NBC Miami reports.
The gunman has reportedly been detained and all services at the airport were suspended.
The Brower's County Sheriff's Office confirmed that multiple people were dead and that the suspected gunman was in custody.
Sen. Bill Nelson told MSNBC that the suspect was named Esteban Santiago and that he had been in possession of a military identification card.
“At first we thought it was firecrackers," eyewitness Mark Lea told NBC Miami. “Everyone started screaming and running. The shooter made his way down through baggage claim. He had what looked like a 9mm and emptied his entire clip. People were trying to run.”
This is a developing story.
