Russia's flagship air carrier Aeroflot said Friday it would suspend all flights to and from Egypt starting December 1.

Aeroflot has only been carrying Russian passengers stranded at Egyptian airports back to Russia following Russia's ban on flights to Egypt on November 6.

"Aeroflot suspends all flights to and from Egypt from December 1," the company said in a statement.

The airline plans to phase out its flight operation program and halt temporarily fights between Moscow and Egypt until March 27, 2016.

Last Friday, Russia cancelled all flights to Egypt until the end of an investigation into the crash of a Russian passenger plane soon after leaving the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheik.

Airbus A321 came down in the Sinai desert 23 minutes after the takeoff, killing all 224 people on board. Most of them were Russian nationals. An Egypt-led investigation team is looking into the causes of the crash with the help of Russian and other foreign experts.

Although investigators said repeatedly that no scenario was ruled out, UK and US media cited the countries' intelligence agencies as claiming they had intercepted terrorist communications in Sinai hinting at a bomb that had been planted on the plane before the takeoff.
