Switzerland has confirmed its F/A-18 military plane approached a
Russian aircraft on Monday in the Swiss airspace near the town of Biel, a
spokesman for Switzerland’s Federal Department of Defense, Civil

After Russia’s Foreign Ministry summoned the French ambassador, the French Foreign Ministry said, without giving any details, that the aircraft involved in the incident was Swiss, the agency said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it summoned the Ambassador of the French Republic in Moscow, Jean-Maurice Ripert, to Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Meshkov to give explanations over the dangerous proximity of a French Air Force plane in the national airspace in the morning of the same day to an airliner that was carrying to Geneva (Switzerland) a Russian parliamentary delegation led by speaker of the State Duma Sergey Naryshkin to attend the 133rd assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
"The Russian side expressed its deep concern to the ambassador over the incident. It emphasised that such actions by Paris are undermining France’s credibility as the venue for multilateral meetings and negotiations," the ministry said.

Russian Foreign Ministry apologizes for summoning French ambassador over plane incident...
ReplyDeleteThe Russian Foreign Ministry has apologized through diplomatic channels to the French side for summoning the ambassador demanding explanations over the incident with the plane which carried the Russian delegation led by State Duma speaker Sergey Naryshkin, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"We have received information from the crew members of the plane that carried the Russian parliamentary delegation led by Mr.Naryshkin to Switzerland to take part in the forum that the aircraft had been dangerously approached by a plane of the French Air Force. We got in touch with the embassy, the French ambassador to Russia was summoned to the Foreign Ministry," Zakharova told the Rossiya 1 TV channel.
After verifying the information, the French side said that the Russian aircraft had been approached not by a plane of the French Air Force but by a Swiss Air Force fighter jet.
"After that apologies were extended to the French side through diplomatic channels, and the Russian Foreign Ministry began working with the Swiss side… We are waiting for a formal reply from the Swiss side," Zakharova said.
