Answering a question asking if he had any information on the location of Russian citizen Sergei Gorbunov, reportedly seized and executed by Islamic State (IS) extremists, Hassoun recommended addressing the Turkish government with this issue.
"They are in touch with the Islamic State and other groups, they could figure it out. I reach out to them when I need to find out where our kidnapped clerics are," Hassoun said.
"The Syrian government has nothing to do with it. Russia could directly ask Turkey where is this man. Turkish intelligence knows it," he stressed.
- The grand mufti continued that the notorious executions of US citizens by the IS were carried out with Ankara's knowledge. He argued that Turkey had evacuated dozens of its own citizens from the areas controlled by the extremists.
- On Sunday, US media reported that Russian engineer Sergei Gorbunov was shot to death in spring. The last available video of him was dated October 2013, when an appeal for his freedom was recorded by the IS fighters who captured him.

ReplyDeleteSyria considers the allowance of Kurdish fighters (the Peshmerga forces) to enter Kobani across the Syrian-Turkish border “blatant encroachment” upon the Syrian sovereignty.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) circulated this statement of the Syrian Foreign Ministry.
According to available information, the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the actions of the Turkish government, calling the behavior of Ankara "disgraceful”.
Earlier it was reported that the first group of Iraqi Peshmerga forces, consisting of 10 people, crossed the Syrian-Turkish border and entered Kobani.
There are 150 militants of Kurdish paramilitary forces in total in Turkey. On Wednesday, 85 people arrived by plane from the Iraqi town of Erbil to Turkish town of Sanliurfa, and then were taken to the border. The rest of 65 militants crossed the Khabour checkpoint on the Turkish-Iraqi border on Tuesday accompanying a column of military vehicles, consisting of equipment and heavy armament.

ReplyDeleteIraqi Kurdistan is prepared to deploy more forces to the Syrian border town of Kobane if asked, the region’s president said in a statement, in which he thanked Turkey and the U.S. for their cooperation in sending Iraqi Kurds to the Syrian town.
President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Masoud Barzani said they only sent a “backup force and weaponry” to Kobane, adding, “We will not hesitate to send more Peshmerga troops if the conditions at the battlefront change or if there is a request for further troops and we once again have consent.”
