All dissidents are exposed to threats of violence in Ukraine. — Russia’s UN envoy/

“The new authorities in reality rely on a far more radical organization — the so-called Right Sector, whose leader has already declared his presidential ambitions,” Vitaly Churkin said

Russia’s UN ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, has told the UN Security Council that all those who disagree with the current authorities in Kiev, including parliament members, are exposed to threats of violence.

He added that as a result of that, the country’s legally elected president, Viktor Yanukovych, was overthrown and had to leave Kiev under a threat to his health and live.

“That forcible overthrow of authorities was illegitimate,” Churkin said. “Such actions have been repeatedly condemned in documents adopted by the UN Security Council. Instead of a government of national unity envisaged in the February 21 agreement, Kiev saw the emergence of what Mr. Yatsenyuk has described as a ‘government of winners’.”

Churkin recalled that a number of posts in that government, including the defense minister post, are now taken by representatives of the radical nationalist Svoboda (Freedom) party.
“In the resolution adopted in December 2012 the European Parliament slammed that party’s views as racist, antisemitic, xenophobic and running counter to the fundamental principles and values of the European Union. Also, it called upon the pro-democratic parties in the Ukrainian parliament to refrain from entering into coalitions with that party,” Churkin recalled. “Where are the European values? Do the new authorities in Kiev profess them?”
“The new authorities in reality rely on a far more radical organization — the so-called Right Sector, whose leader has already declared his presidential ambitions,” Churkin said. “The radicals have not disarmed themselves in defiance of the February 21 agreement. Moreover, they have been building up their arsenals from the army depots they have raided.”
“The new authorities have done nothing to arrange a national dialogue in order to carry out a genuine constitutional reform,” Churkin said. “In fact, the authorities in Kiev are cutting the country in halves.”

  2. Russian FM: arrest of neo-Nazis in Kharkov is a beginning of anti-extremist actions...

The arrest of neo-Nazi gunmen in Kharkov is expected to mark the beginning of large-scale actions to neutralize and bring extremists to justice, the Russian Foreign Ministry's envoy for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, Konstantin Dolgov, said in his blog on Twitter on Saturday.

Nobody has cancelled Ukraine's international obligations for counteraction against racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia. The obligations must be fulfilled, he noted.

Russian diplomat also said that Bandera structures in Ukraine must be outlawed as those inciting ethnic hatred.

On Saturday morning, the Kharkov region's police chief Anatoly Dmitriyev said the operation to detain Right Sector gunmen, who had opened fire and seized hostages in Kharkov, was completed. About 30 people were detained................http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/723660?utm_medium=rss20

  3. The Ukrainian Defence Ministry will spend biggest part of Western aid on National Guard ...

Ukraine will spend the biggest part of the Western financial aid to create its National Guard, a highly-placed source in the Ukrainian Defence Ministry said on Saturday, March 15.

“But Kiev has no intention to finance the Army and the Navy which are in shambles,” he said.

The official noted that by so doing the Ukrainian authorities show the priority of the National Guard over the Armed Forces. “The high status of the National Guard coupled with its right to oversee the activities of army commanders will substantially degrade the authority of the Army and Navy by giving them a secondary role. The government of Ukraine is avoiding issues of reliable national defence by putting all bets on the suppression of internal political dissidence,” he said.

On March 13, the Ukrainian parliament passed a law authorising the creation of the National Guard. It will incorporate the Interior Troops and will consist of about 60,000 personnel. Its commander will be approved by the national parliament.

On March 12, a source in the Ukrainian government said that apart from the Interior Troops the National Guard would also enlist some of the Maidan protesters.
