12 Syrian Turkmen wounded in clashes with ISIL close to Turkish border

Clashes between Turkmen and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in the north of Aleppo escalate and 12 Turkmen are reported wounded in clashes.

Twelve Turkmen are reportedly wounded Friday afternoon in clashes with millitants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the town of Cobanbeyli, north of Aleppo.

The wounded were taken to hospitals in the southern Turkish provinces of Kilis and Gaziantep.

The armed conflict between ISIL militants and Syrian Turkmen groups which has been going on for more than a week was reported to have declined in the morning but local sources told Anadolu Agency that the clashes escalated on Friday afternoon .

The ISIL militants after the week long fighting had to withdraw nine kms out of Cobanbey town. A group of 300 armed Turkmen raided the ISIL militants last night to clear them off the region. There are no records of numbers of casualties or death toll, local sources reported.

The conflict escalated after the militants from Cerablus, Rakka, Tal Abyad reached the region to help ISIL militants.

  • Gunshots were heard from a Syrian refugee camp in the southern Turkish town of Elbeyli in the province of Kilis.

The sources also reported that many opposition groups in Aleppo and Azez town of Aleppo joined the Turkmen forces to fight ISIL.

Some people from the southern Turkish town of Elbeyli in Kilis province who have relatives over the border in the Syrian town of Cobanbeyli rushed to the border to get news of their relatives but the Turkish security forces sent them off.

Turkish Armed Forces are also tightening security along the border due to the increasing armed conflict close to the borders.

  1. Four Turkmen commanders killed in ISIL suicide attack near Turkey border...

Four Turkmen commanders have been killed in an attack claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in a town near the border of Turkey.

Clashes have been ongoing between ISIL and Syrian Turkmen groups for more than ten days around the Çobanbey town in Aleppo, a Turkmen populated town. The town has been captured by ISIL militants recently and they offered to negotiate with Turkmens to settle the dispute.

A militant blew himself up during the meeting with the Turkmen group and four Turkmen commanders have been killed. The Turkish army said last week it had opened fire on a convoy of vehicles in northern Syria belonging to ISIL.

The army said the attack, carried out Jan. 28, came after two Turkish military vehicles had been fired upon at the Çobanbey border post near the southeastern town of Kilis.

The incident is the first pitting Turkey against the Syrian jihadist group that has been fighting forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, as well as fellow rebel groups in the north of the country since January.

  2. ISIL tries to gain ground in Syrian-Turkish border regions...

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants have been trying to occupy oil rich and strategic border regions in Syria fighting against the Syrian oppostion.

ISIL, after occupying Rakka, Halab and Idlib provinces which had been under the control of the Syrian opposition, has been endeavoring to gain ground in regions close to Turkish border.

The casualty toll is increasing as a result of week-long armed conflicts between ISIL and Turkmen opposition groups. The Syrian Human Rights Network (SHRN) anounced that the death toll in the four-week conflict between ISIL and local opposition forces has been 562, including 206 civilians.

ISIL separated from the Jabhat-un-Nusra militant group last year. Since then it has been fighting against Syrian opposition under the leadership of a man called Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi.

It is currently in conflict with Turkmen groups in northern Syria and the Tawhid Brigades, an armed Syrian oppsition group affiliated to the Islamic Front, helping Turkmen to fight against ISIL.

  3. ISIL are tools of Assad regime: Syrian Turkmen commander...

Former Syria army officer asserts that militant group has never fought against Assad regime in any part of Syria.

    GAZIANTEP

Militant group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has never opened a front or fought against Syria's regime forces in any part of the country, according to a former officer of the Syrian army.

After 42 years of service in the Syrian Air Forces, Air Commodore Muntasir Cavus joined the opposition ranks following the outbreak of the civil war in the country and took the helm of the 1st Fatih Division alongside the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is based in the Turkmen town of Cobanbey in Aleppo.

In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, the Syrian Turkmen commander stated that ISIL militias launched a suicide attack to capture the strategic town of Cobanbey on the Turkey-Syria border on Monday. This was to ease trasportation and the coordination of ISIL forces in and around the recently seized towns of Mumbuc, Cerablus, Bab and Azez which are close to Aleppo.................http://www.aa.com.tr/en/headline/283789--isil-are-tools-of-assad-regime-syrian-turkmen-commander

  5. Clashes intensify near Turkey's Syrian border after the Syrian regime’s attack in the Turkmen Bayir-Bucak region........

HATAY, Turkey .-Syrian opposition forces are occupying more towns in the Turkmen Bayir-Bucak region as clashes with the Syrian regime intensify.

For almost a week, conflict in the town of Kesab, in the Turkmen Bayir-Bucak region of Latakia in Syria, has raged between the Syrian regime and the opposition. However, the town has remained calm since the opposition took over and raised flags at the local police stations.

The fighting has since moved closer to the Turkish border with three regime-controlled border posts reportedly captured by the opposition while clashes have been heard in the Turkish border town of Yayladagi, where 1 person has died and 8 have been injured.

Turkey has put its security forces on alert and warned its citizens living near the border after Turkman Commander, Abu Rashad Abdullah died in the clashes.

The Syrian civil war, which has entered its fourth year, has claimed more than 140,000 lives, according to the London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights.

Syria has been gripped by almost constant fighting since President Bashar al-Assad's regime responded to anti-government protests in March 2011 with a violent crackdown, sparking a conflict which has spiraled into a civil war.
